A Roof Over Your Head: Celebrating National Homeownership Month

Your home is something you should be proud of every day. You put countless hours into decorating, cleaning, performing yard work, and keeping up every square inch of your home. When you let some areas of your home fall by the wayside, it unfortunately shows.

This year for National Homeowners Month, take pride in every inch of your home, including the roof over your head! Learn how to take care of your roof year-round with these simple tips:

 1. Remove debris from storms, trees, or after a long winter.

Leaves, twigs, branches, and other debris are not only unsightly when they are stuck up on your home’s roof, they can also cause lasting damage. If your home’s roof is at a safe height, try sweeping debris off of it at the beginning of spring and after any major storms. It is never recommended that people with slate roofs climb up on their roofs.

Don’t feel comfortable being up that high? Our group of professionals will happily come out with the appropriate safety gear to make sure your roof is free of debris and looking its best.

 2. Make sure to have damage repaired right away.

Damage left unattended can lead to an even bigger (and more expensive) problemS down the line. If you notice a storm has damaged your roof, even slightly, you should call a professional to assess the situation right away. Normal wear and tear might also be impacting the state of your roof. If you notice some areas of your roof are starting to peel or look a little different than the rest, it is a good time to call for some help.

 3. Gutters and trim matters! Make your home stand out with amazing curb appeal.

Keep the trim around your roof well taken care of and painted for a well-appointed look! The trim around your roofline is an important part of caring for the exterior of your home. Clean gutters will also help keep the water away from your house and prevent unwanted leaks from dripping on you from above. Make sure you are always cleaning the debris out of your gutters to prevent clogs and damage.

 4. Replace your roof in a timely manner when it starts to deteriorate.

Depending on the type of roof you have, it will need to be replaced every 20-30 years. While that is a long lifespan, unfortunately new roofs come with a larger price tag. Consider the type of roofing material that would make your home stand out. Asphalt is a classic choice for many homeowners, but other options like metal, clay, or slate are also show-stopping options.

If you have questions about what type of roof would look best for your home, a roofing professional from our team would be happy to help you weigh your options.
